Fair Wear Foundation certification - production of clothing in accordance with fair trade

The Fair Wear Foundation works to create a clothing industry that is fair for everyone.
The Fair Wear Foundation (FWF) is a non-profit organization that works with clothing brands, factories, unions, NGOs and governments to improve working conditions for garment workers in 11 producing countries across Asia, Europe and Africa.
Their 130 member brands show that there is a fairer way to make clothes. They use their influence to create change. Together they solve problems that others consider unsolvable. But they also want to create change outside of their members' supply chains. Therefore, it shares its "know-how" with the rest of the industry. They provide evidence to other brands and big players in the clothing sector about what a fairer clothing industry could look like. Together they create a new standard for the clothing industry.

Work standards
The basis of cooperation between FWF and its members is the Code of Labor Practices. The core of this code consists of eight labor standards derived from ILO (International Labor Organization) conventions and the UN Declaration on Human Rights. This means that the FWF Code of Labor Practice is based on internationally recognized standards that have been established through tripartite negotiations.
The following standards are observed in the production of all FWF members:
- employment is freely chosen - no forced labour
- there is no discrimination in employment - relations at the workplace are based on the principle of equal opportunities
- prohibition of the use of child labor - no one under the age of 15 may become an employee
- the possibility to form unions, to be a member of unions and to bargain collectively
- wages and benefits paid for a standard work week must meet at least the legal minimum
- proportionate working hours - employees must not be required to work more than 48 hours per week
- safe and healthy working conditions - workers must be provided with a safe and hygienic working environment
- the relationship between employees and employers is legally binding and based on an employment contract
